Berkeley has 135 paths, steps, and walkways. Paths are maintained by the City’s Department of Public Works and Department of Parks & Recreation. BPWA, a volunteer group of community members, assists by surveying and mapping the paths; scouting out needs for signage and repairs; organizing work groups to maintain and improve paths; and seeking funds for restoring paths and building new ones. Monday through Friday, tours depart from the UC Berkeley Visitor Center, 101 Sproul Hall, at 10:00 a.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, tours depart from the Campanile (Sather Tower), Saturdays at 10:00 a.m and Sundays at 1:00 p.m.. The UC Botanical Garden is a living museum open to the public with over 12,000 different kinds of plants from around the world displayed over 34 acres. Explore an authentically restored aircraft carrier, from Captain’s Bridge to Engine Room! A national Historical Landmark, this ship participated in WWII and the Apollo 11/12 moon missions.
